Toyota Expands R&D Base in Belgium
Tokyo — TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION (TMC), as part of its continuing localization of European design and engineering operations to better meet the needs of its customers in Europe, announced today the completed expansion of the Toyota Motor Europe S.A./N.V (TME) Technical Centre in Zaventem, Belgium. Belgian Prime Minister Guy Verhofstadt, TME Executive Vice President Alan Jones and other officials took part in a ceremony at the center today marking the expansion.
Capping off an effort that began in early
2004, the newly expanded TME Technical Centre has grown nearly
2.5 times in floor space, greatly enlarging both its office and
experiment facilities. The expansion—aimed at strengthening
Toyota's product-development competitiveness in the diversifying
European market—means that the center will now handle body
engineering for all Toyota models to be produced in Europe, as
well as diesel engine evaluation for all Toyota models to be sold
in Europe.
The expansion represents an additional investment by TMC in the TME Technical Centre of 75 million euros (or about 9.7 billion yen at 130 yen to the euro) and has included the creation of approximately 200 more jobs.
The TME Technical Centre covers the European side of Toyota's
worldwide body and major component design and evaluation efforts;
Toyota also operates technical centers in these key markets:
Asia, North America, Oceania and Japan.

Toyota Unveils All-new 2007 Camry and Camry Hybrid
TOKYO — Toyota unveiled today (January 9 in the United States) the all-new 2007 Camry and Camry Hybrid during a press conference at the 2006 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS), which takes place in Detroit from January 8 to 22*.
The Camry, America's best-selling car four years running and eight of the past nine years, is completely new for 2007 as Toyota engineers and designers follow a strategy that refuses to take continued success for granted. In an effort to redefine the Camry, Toyota chose to expand the brand's very definition and in the process create a new benchmark for sedans. Designers rethought every aspect of the Camry, from its chassis to its body, interior, accessories and drivetrain. The result is a world-class sedan that not only redefines global standards for comfort, performance and intelligent design, but is also available, for the first time, with Toyota's Hybrid Synergy Drive.
As interested as drivers will be in Camry's enhanced performance, refinement, value and style, they'll also be interested in its fuel-economy numbers. The standard four-cylinder CE model has U.S. EPA-estimated city/highway fuel economy ratings of 24/34. The Camrys equipped with V6 engines have EPA-estimated fuel economy ratings of 22 mpg city/31 mpg highway, while the Camry hybrid has fuel economy ratings of 43 mpg city/37 mpg highway.
